No one is listening - an original poem by Arianne

No one is listening

Not at all

Not when I was hurting

You were constantly talking

Not when I was black and blue

You claimed you had no clue.

No one is listening

Yet again

Another person has died

Its only then there are outcries

Only then people wished they did more

Did I have to die?

For you to care.

No one is listening

I am not surprised

How could they

over the screams and the cries

No one is listening

Screaming and shouting until

You are red in the face

We want change!

But how?

Respect and understanding are yet

To join the fray.

No one is listening

Protests, rallies, and petitions

But still, no one is listening

Opposition shouting

I stand here and think

Is this what change really means?

Countless have died

On the altar of change

And yet we are still playing the same game

What do we have to show for outrage?

A couple of months of shouting

And then silence.

This is not change.

This is rage.

I wish you’d all shut up

STOP

ENOUGH

for God’s sake listen

How can anything change

When can’t hear what is being said?

Stop dividing

Can’t you see that is what they want

They’ll say because we can’t stand together

They don’t know what change we want

Stand together and stand tall

For if we want change, we must all stand together

Please, let not let these deaths be in vain

We are all listening now

Does that scare you?

We are going to build an equal world

Even if that means getting rid of you

All.
