Winter Wondering a poem by Nathan Barton

Happiness prevails?

But sadness is everywhere,

Why?

Tears cascade to the snow

And the Snow melts away

After just one day, but

Why?

We wish to get our people

The greatest presents

We can find and afford

But we oft-ignore

The poor and the poorly

And the people so sore from living,

Surviving, that it hurts them to sing

A Christmas Carol,

Or it hurts to spend another

Day Alone, lonely, or

Home Alone,

But with wet bandits

In your head, winning,

And singing all the Christmas songs

That crash you down from

Santa’s sleigh into your shortest, coldest, darkest days.

Christmas Everyday

Would bring dismay

To many a face,

Too many a trace,

And many left wondering

Why.
